Elements are used to encapsulate pieces of data, and attributes are generally used to provide accompanying information about an element, rather than to encapsulate raw data itself. Whether you actually use an element or an attribute is up to the needs of your application.

Use attributes if your information requires data of a simple type and:

•Your information requires a default or fixed value.
•Your information requires data that is metadata for an existing element
•If the size of your XML file is an issue, attributes tend to take up fewer bytes than elements

The following list describes the key differences between elements and attributes from a schema perspective:

•A schema can define whether the ordering of elements is significant, but attributes can occur in any order.
•Elements can be nested with the tag, which means one and only one of the listed elements can appear.
•Elements can occur more than once, but attributes cannot.

Match URL > Requested URL: 'Matches the Pattern' > Using: 'Regular Expressions' > Pattern:

*Note: Pattern: tests against the <path>, not the entire URL!

So if you want to test if a string is in the beggining of the path, you would use ^. For example, if you want to redirect...

... to ...

... you would use:
Pattern: ^hr/.*

Then, Action > Action type: 'Redirect' > Action Properties > Redirect URL:

The {R:0} is a back reference variable. You can see it when you use the 'Test pattern...' button in the 'Match URL' section of the form.

FAST Search - Don't let the Byte Order Marks bite!

I recently ran into the situation described in this post:

The configuration wizard was failing on the non-admin nodes. In particular, I ran into checklist item 2, an invisible Byte Order Mark (BOM) at the beginning of the file. With the help of a friendly Microsoft engineer, I ran through the steps in checklist item 3 and the cmdlet, 'Set-FASTSearchIPSec -Create -Verbose', failed. This is described in the following kb article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028971

It turned out that even though I was copying and pasting the deployment.xml using notepad to get rid of the BOM, it was the wrong copy of deployment.xml!

THE DEPLOYMENT.XML YOU MUST FIX IS LOCATED ON THE ADMIN NODE AT:

%FastSearch%\etc\config_data\deployment\deployment.xml

In order to see the BOM, or to verify that it’s gone, open the file in your favorite hex editor. I used HexEdit trial software. So think twice before using visual studio 2010 to author your FAST deployment.xml file. :)

FAST Search - Configuration Wizard Fails on Admin Node

We received the following error when attempting to run the configuration wizard on a FAST admin node (Edited for space):

StdError - resourcestoreinstaller.exe - C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe SET config "ResourceStore" /section:requestFiltering /verbs.allowUnlisted:false /commit:apphost - ERROR ( message:Unknown attribute "verbs.allowUnlisted". Replace with -? for help. )

Exception - System.Management.Automation.RuntimeException: An error occurred while installing Resource store.

It turned out to be the number of processor on the admin node. There were 24. The limit is apparently 15. Once we reduced the number of processors to 4 in the bios, the configuration wizard completed successfully.

Off : Turns off the Developer Dashboard.

You might just be able to add the managed path "personal" (with no "my" in front) to the web application. I would have to test this.

Resolution:
(Adopted from Creating new My Site hosts for MOSS 2007)

1.Create a new web application

2.Delete managed path: sites - Wildcard inclusion

3.Create managed paths:
my - Explicit inclusion
personal - Wildcard inclusion

4.Create a site collection at /my/ managed path. Use Enterprise > My Site Host template. Use web application created above. Title: Pilot My Site Host.

5.Create a blank site collection at the / managed path to enable self-service site creation. Use Collaboration > Blank Site template. Use web application created above. Title: Pilot Blank site.

6.Enable Self-Service Management. Central Administration > Application Management > Manage Web Applications > Click on Web Application created above > Ribbon > Self-Service Site Creation > On > OK.

7.Navigate to My Site Settings. Central Administration > Application Management > Manage service applications > User Profile Service Application > Setup My Sites > My Site Host > http://mossdev1:25000/my/. Note that this points to the URL for the explicit inclusion path and My Site Host Template site collection you created above. Set Personal site Location into just "personal". Note that this points to the URL (after SharePoint puts context to it) for the Wildcard inclusion managed path you created above. Choose the 2nd Site Naming Format: User name (resolve conflicts by using domain_username).

To pass information from the workflow task to the InfoPath task edit form, use ItemMetadata.xml as a secondary datasource in InfoPath. Great, but how do you pass information from the InfoPath task edit form back to the workflow task?

Turns out this is handled automatically. For example, if you add a column to the workflow task list with the same name as the ExtendedProperty, you get to see the values in the list view. Make sure to create the column with the exact name of the ExtendedProperty. You may immediately change the name to a friendly name after creating the column since the actual field name that matches the ExtendedProperty remains intact.

Assuming you have followed the naming conventions in this post, you have a group node named: gpContactSelector under the "myFields" node. To utilize another Contact Selector control:
- Add a new group node under myFields named, for example, gpContactSelectorNew
- Expand the existing gpContactSelector node
- Right-click on the Person repeating node and choose Reference
- Select the new group node, gpContactSelectorNew, and click OK
- You should now see the Person node under gpContactSelectorNew - simply drag gpContactSelectorNew to your view and select Contact Selector!

When using a SequenceActivity inside a ReplicatorActivity, set the OwnerActivityName SubProperty of the CorrelationToken Property to the SequenceActivity, not the Workflow. If the OwnerActivityName is set to the Workflow, you might get the following error: Correlation value on declaration "taskToken" is already initialized.
